Biography

Mina Sukovic enjoys her career as a versatile musician. Active as a soloist and as a member of various chamber ensembles and symphony orchestras, flutist Mina Sukovic regularly performs classical, contemporary, and popular music. She has performed in Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Belgium, Croatia, Romania, Montenegro, and the USA, and taken part in festivals such as Days of the Flute, The Consummate Flutist, International Mendelssohn Festival, and Croatia Flute Academy. Her performing career took her from major venues in Belgrade and Banja Luka, through prestigious Bozar in Brussels, to the famous Alice Tully Hall at Lincoln Center in New York.

 

Mina's musical journey is a story of passion, dedication, and artistry. Her commitment to excellence and her unique blend of musical prowess and academic expertise have captivated audiences and scholars alike. Her performances are not just about playing music; they are about telling a story, evoking emotions, and sharing her profound understanding of music with the world. Her flute journey started when she was six years old in music school in Belgrade. Since then, the flute has become an inseparable part of her life. Expressing herself through the flute became the most natural way of communicating with people through music.

 

As a soloist, Mina Sukovic performed Jacques Ibert’s Flute Concerto with Queens College Orchestra at beautiful LeFrak Concert Hall. She appeared as principal flutist of the Chelsea Symphony, ESO, and performed as a member of the Banja Luka Philharmonic, Litha Symphony Orchestra, Children's Orchestra Society, Collegium Musicum New York, and Tutti World Music Orchestra.

 

Throughout her career, Mina enriched her repertoire with different genres and styles of music. Apart from her focus on classical music, Mina performed Romanian folk music with the recognized folk music orchestra of the National Council of Romanian National Minorities in Serbia and world music with respected musicians from Europe, the Americas, and Asia, creating a unique blend of Balkan folk, classical, and popular music. She also performed film music and Irish pop tunes for several Fantasy festivals and concerts.

 

Mina spends significant time dedicated to performing new and contemporary music. She has performed contemporary music in international music festivals such as Ruid al Sud, KozArs, and CompCord Festival, and respected venues such as the Museum of the Republic of Srpska in Banja Luka, LeFrak Concert Hall, and DROM in New York. Committed to performing contemporary music, she has had several commissions, including pieces for flute solo and chamber ensembles. She collaborates regularly with composers of diverse backgrounds.

 

Mina Sukovic studied flute with Professor Sonja Miletic at the Academy of Arts in Banja Luka and with esteemed flutist Judith Mendenhall at Aaron Copland School of Music. Holding both master’s degrees in flute performance and a master’s degree in Musicology from Belgrade University, Mina Sukovic has had several musicological papers published under the Musicology Department. She presented her master's dissertation at the FESTUM Festival in Belgrade and presented a paper based on her master's thesis at the International Festival KozArs.

She has attended master classes in her country and abroad under the tutelage of eminent flutists such as Jasmine Choi, Patrick Gallois, Michel Debost, Nicholas Duchamp, Denis Bouriakov, Laura Levai-Aksin, and Matej Zupan.

Mina currently resides in New York City, dedicated to bringing excellence and musicianship to every performance and educational endeavor. In addition to her artistic career, she is actively engaged with the Serbian community, where she teaches music at the Serbian school, leads a children's choir, and introduces American-born Serbian children to traditional Serbian songs, hymns, and musical language as a way of preserving and celebrating the cultural heritage.
